"Go west young lady" (well, young at heart lady)! That's where the gold is (well, white gold that is)! Today may be the best day for X-C Skiing on well defined groomed tracks over the next few days so I thought I better hit the 1 west sooner rather than later. The west is predicted to win the white gold lottery.
I read where Cascade Valley had been groomed on Sunday, that was the deciding factor on where I should head today. I was surprised to see the groomer just finishing as I was beginning this morning. Sweet! Once at the junction that points to Cascade, I focused on skiing which meant no photos, no snacks, no layer adjustments. Before I knew it, I was at the Campground, where I did two loops then it was time for photos, snacks and layer adjustments. After all that business I then enjoyed the ski back with all the gentle downhills.
With time on my side, I used that time for more snacks, more layer adjustments and more photos. I spent some time sauntering along packed trails beside Lake Minniwanka. I saw lots of people out on the ice but I opted not to join them as I saw still lots of open water, cracks in the ice and frozen slush.
When all was said and done, I felt fulfilled from the exercise, fresh cold mountain air, snow & scenery and it was now time to call it a day.
