final post on this blog

While this is the final post on this blog, I am not giving up on blogging.  When my internet provider performed a migration, it left me unable to access this blog on my main computer to post new stories.     Since the end of August I have been posting from another device and it has become time consuming and confusing.  To get back to blogging being an easy, enjoyable experience, I built another blog which I am trying to keep similar to the old one.  At this point the basics are in place and it will be a work in progress over the next little while.  The old blog will remain as a source of information.  It will be my go to place when I want to relive an adventure.  Commenting will be turned off on the old blog yet it will be open on the new site.

Dinosaur Provincial Park Camping September 2020

Spending four days and three nights tent camping at Dinosaur Provincial Park was exactly the mini vacation I desired.  I was due to spend three nights here comfort camping in June but that type of camping was cancelled due to the way our world is these months.  I wanted a desert fix so I am thankful for this recent adventure.  While only a mere 2.5 hour drive from home, I felt like I was on another planet!

Each morning started savouring a cup of coffee up on the ridge waiting for the sun to rise!

Considering how small this Provincial Park is, it contains many hidden gems, diverse landscape and and an abundance of sweet sights.  September is my favourite time of year as the autumn shades are on display while still being able to enjoy summer-like temperatures.   This Park is a photographer's dream and I met numerous big lens people.  I am not a big lens person but I was still able to capture beautiful seconds in time. I picked out a few of my favourite photos to share with you.

The trails to hike and locations to see throughout Dinosaur Provincial Park can all be accessed by foot right from the front door of my tent.  A walking routine fell into place which consisted of a three hour morning walk, two hour afternoon walk and a one hour evening walk each day.  This place is like a playground for the young and young at heart!  I just did what I do!

As day turns to night in the desert the landscape lights up like it is on fire and that's my sign to set my own fire. All the fire crackles coming from nearby campsites is a soothing sound and it is soon time to settle in my tent  for the night.  Another day ends and another trip to this land like no another comes to an end with a wealth of wonderful memories!

Welcome to what "Hello September" looks like to me!   

My Sketches

As I delve more into the world of color pencil sketching, the more I am enjoying it.  After trying my hand at landscapes, people, birds, animals, food, scenery, not one theme stands out as a favourite.  Not yet anyway. First sketching other people's pictures via video tutorials, then sketching my own photos, it is now time to sit out in nature and sketch what I see.   I better do that sooner rather than later or I will be sketching winter white scenes.  These are my most recent projects.

Fish Creek Park Birthday Celebration

Happy Birthday to a special friend!  It was necessary for our visit to be outside so we were very thankful to be afforded a beautiful day.  Fish Creek Park has paved paths, lots of wide open spaces,  many big benches to relax on, walkways, an artists garden, flowers, trees and little picket fences.  It's good to be outside, it's good to be social and we found a perfect part of the Park that we could share hours celebrating her birthday.  It was a very different way to celebrate yet we made it enjoyable with a stroll around seeing the sights, a picnic lunch, a present to open, people watching, basquing in the sun and topping it all off savouring orange creamsickle floats with dreamwhip and a cherry!

Bowness & Baker Parks

A morning walk around Bowness and Baker Parks was where we settled on to spend time catching up on life's happenings.  A walk & talk, that's it!  There's lots of areas to walk here and that's good because we had lots to talk about so needed lots of ground to cover. It was a beautiful day to be by The Lagoon and along the Bow River, pair that with sharing hours with a fellow Bluenoser, it was a win win opportunity!  It got even better when we were joined by another friend and we three then added speciality drinks and sweets to the mix.  I like when friendly conversations spark new ideas!

 Nose Hill Romp

It is between seasons up on Nose Hill.  The flowers are saying good-bye summer, the lake level is low, the greens are turning beige and brown.  This week's visit was more of a romp all over the place attacking the hills rather than focusing on photo opportunities.  No matter what the season up on The Hill, it feels like a mini escape  and fills the heart and soul with all that is good.

Forgetmenot Pond Sunrise

I had all intentions of spending time hanging out at Forgetmenot Pond but it was not happening and time was passing by.  I had an open window of a few hours on this morning and those hours corresponded with sunrise.  It was time to get on out there!  It was me and the sunrise and it was perfect!  Two laps around the Pond admiring the day as it began, then breakfast at my favourite table filled those few hours.  Each time I visit Forgetmenot Pond is memorable!
